REPUBLIC COUNTY, Kan. — Funding for the MakeMyMove program will end in August this
year. The sponsor behind the program has announced a withdrawal of support throughout the
Northwest and Central Kansas region. The MakeMyMove program was designed to bring in new
residents by offering financial support, free memberships, or other perks to help them settle in
smaller communities like Republic County.
Anyone who wants to qualify for relocation incentives must complete their move by mid-August
to remain eligible. After that date, new applications will not be accepted, and current offers will
expire. Republic County Economic Development Corporation (RCED) encourages interested
movers to act now while the program is still active.
“We have seen strong interest and real benefits from this program,” said Jenny Russell, director
of Republic County Economic Development Corporation. “It has brought in new residents,
helped fill jobs, and created energy around what Republic County has to offer. We are exploring
other funding sources to keep this momentum alive because we know how important these
incentives are. While this funding shift is a challenge, it does not mean our work will stop.”
RCED is looking at new partners, grants, and other resources that could extend relocation
incentives beyond August. The department wants to continue efforts that attract new families,
expand the workforce, and support local businesses. Russell said her team believes these
programs are vital for helping Republic County stay competitive with other rural communities
and will keep working with regional and state contacts to identify next steps.
Since its launch, MakeMyMove has brought attention to Republic County as a place where
people can build a future. It has attracted remote workers, tradespeople, and families seeking a
small-town lifestyle with room to grow. RCED hopes to build on these successes even after the
current funding ends.
