Deadline for businesses to apply for a Summer Intern: December 31st, 2019
Republic County, KS – High school and college students are matched with local businesses throughout northwest and north central Kansas for both work study opportunities during the school year and paid, summer internships.
Students gain professional skills and broaden their perspectives on career options. Local businesses benefit by networking with youth, bringing fresh ideas to the workplace, and “interviewing” students for potential future jobs – all of which contribute to youth retention to our small, rural communities.
Nex-Generation assists in the student application process for the Student Internship Program and provides businesses with curriculum and guidance. The participating business interviews, selects and hires its intern. The business is responsible for payroll and payroll tax liabilities. Nex-Generation offers a grant of up to $3,600 to help offset a business’s costs of funding a summer intern. The grant is based on a required base wage of $10 per hour for 40 hours per week for nine weeks. Funding is made possible by the generous donations and tax-deductible contributions by the Dane G. Hansen Foundation, Nex-Generation Business Partners, and Nex-Tech Round-Up Program participants. Grant funding for the internships is determined annually and is available on a limited basis.
Republic County Economic Development Director Luke Mahin states “This is a great opportunity for students and businesses, alike. Republic County had two businesses in 2018 participate and five in 2019 who hosted summer interns in the program. Businesses looking to host a work-study or intern student in the future can contact RCED for questions at firstname.lastname@example.org or 785-374-3047.”
