Jenny Russell (co-director of RCED) was pivotal in planting the idea for Shari Haug to consider purchasing the former House of Shoes business on the square in Belleville in 2012. Since expanding to her second location the business has been a welcome addition to the Belleville and Republic County. Also RCED wants to thank Linda Sutton with the North Central Kansas Small Business Development Center who has played a huge part in recent business successions, expansions and start ups in Republic County.
6th Street Fashions and Footwear, Belleville and Concordia, Shari Haug, owner, is one of eight businesses that will be honored statewide by the The Kansas Small Business Development Center as a 2014 Existinging Business of the Year.
Each of the eight KSBDC regional centers has selected one emerging and one existing business for the award. In total, 16 Kansas small businesses will be recognized at a ceremony in Topeka on Tuesday, March 11. The businesses were selected from more than 2,458 businesses that received KSBDC services in 2013.
“The selected businesses were given careful consideration by our KSBDC regional directors and consultants,” said Greg Panichello, state director. “Collectively, the KSBDC team feels these 16 small businesses are excellent examples of small business adaptation and success in challenging times.”
Award recipients will be recognized by the Kansas House and Kansas Senate. Resolutions recognizing the business owners will be presented by Sen. Tom Holland, D-Baldwin City, and Rep. Don Hill, R-Emporia.
