Rural and Independent Innovators Conference

On two days in January 2019 – January 28 and 29 – innovators and subject matter experts will gather from across the state of Kansas to kick off the first Kansas SBDC Rural & Independent Innovators Conference, or “RIIC.”

RIIC is focused on rural and independent innovators living across the state of Kansas. It’s an off-shoot of the successful Kansas SBDC annual week-long conference and events, Encountering Innovation.  RIIC is an event that supports the work at the Kansas SBDC Technology Innovation Center. The January 2019 event is being hosted by the Kansas SBDC at Washburn.

Who should attend?

This conference is for innovators who want to know when and how to move forward with their ideas and for businesses who want to grow through innovation.

Have an idea? Unsure of next steps? Not ready to deal with all of the technical stuff?

Then Day 1 is the day is for you.

On Day 1, attendees will learn about topics such how to evaluate an idea and take the first steps in moving forward, early stage financing options, Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grants, intellectual property basics, risk management and getting past set-backs.  We’ll wrap up the first day with some helpful networking.

Have a business and you’re interested in licensing ideas for growth? Do you have a working prototype or a few product sales under your belt?

Then Day 2 is for you.

Innovators and business owners who are past the initial idea stage and want to know more about topics such as product development, scalability, marketing, in-licensing and out-licensing, later stage financing, exit strategies, and potential for international trade will find Day 2 invaluable. Day 2 will wrap up after lunch.

Who will you get to meet at RIIC?

Subject matter experts and business owners with incredible experiences with the commercialization process will be here to share. You’ll have several opportunities throughout the day to mingle and ask questions of several panels. Planned discussions include financing early stage ventures, managing intellectual property risks, and dealing with pain points in the commercialization process.

If you’re unsure where you fall in the commercialization process, or you just want to learn more, then we encourage to attend both days for this first-of-its-kind event in Kansas.
