Plaza Motel Reopens Here Today After Renovation By New Owners
The Plaza Motel in Belleville reopened today when 17 units were put into operation by the new owners, Phyllis and Dick Francis, both formerly of Belleville, who have moved from Wichita to take over the management and operation of the motel units, located on US36 highway at K street. The motel has been closed since the first of the year when the ownership was faced with poor receipts, climbing taxes and financial problems. “We are thrilled to be back in Belleville,” Mrs. Francis said, and she added, “ I can’t say enough for the great people of the city of Belleville, and the businesses have been exceptionally kind to us.” The Francis’s took over the operation just ten days ago, coming to Belleville with their two children, Rick and Julie, and have managed to renovate 17 units for occupancy. “The seventeen units are booked full Thursday, Friday and Saturday,” the Francis’s said, “and that is not all. We already have multiple rooms rented for 1991.” Earl Perkins and his wife, Phyllis of Texas have made reservations for Memorial Day 1991 and they expect to be accompanied home to Belleville by Lois and Jim Scott of Missouri. The new owners both have their roots in Belleville, although Mr. Francis has been with the B.F.I. Compaction concern in Wichita for a number of years. Mrs. Francis is the daughter of the late Roy Ferguson and his wife, Mrs. Pert Ferguson of Belleville. She is a sister of City Council Member Mickey Ferguson.
