NCK Farm and Food Policy Council Formed
A NCK Farm and Food Policy Council has been formed that encompasses all 12 counties in the North Central Regional Planning Commission (NCRPC) primary service area. Council members who bring a variety of expertise to the table, met for the first time on February 24. Members include Ellen Barber, Deana Betts, Aaron Floresch, Brenda Guitierez, Kelsey Hateshol, Chris Janssen (of C&C High Tunnel Farms in Scandia), Lance Nobert, Greg Renter, Julie Roller, Jennifer Simmelink, Ashley Svaty, and Gaylene Zier‐Ryan.
The Council will help bolster connections between producers and customers, vendors and marketers; and will be positioned to take advantage of various funding programs and partnerships/collaborations.
Project Description: Form a NCK Farm and Food Policy Council
Partners: NCRPC, LiveWell Saline County. These partners also wish to recognize the support of the Greater Salina Area Community Foundation and the Kansas Health Foundation.
Goal: Add value to the agricultural sector of the region while bettering the health of consumers. Some issues that may be addressed include increased local food availability, healthy food habits, and market access.
