Home show, Rock-a-Thon kick-off take spotlight this weekend (The Belleville Telescope 3/12/2014)
Republic County citizens and visitors alike will have a chance to learn something new, improve their health and be entertained every day during the next week. Friday and Saturday, March 14 and 15 is the NCK Farm and Home Expo and Health Fair in the 4-H Building on the NCK Free Fairgrounds. The Farm and Home Expo runs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. The Health Fair, conducted by Republic County Hospital, will operate Saturday, March 15 only, with low-cost blood tests available from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday morning.
More than 20 exhibitors will be on hand for the Farm and Home Expo. Attendees can receive free trees, sign up for drawings, and watch rope making demonstrations. Admission is free, and concessions will be available. The event is sponsored by the Belleville Chamber and Main Street organization. Sunday, March 16, the Cuba Booster Club will kick off the 39th edition of the Cuba Rock-a-Thon, a major fundraising event which features seven continuous days of keeping rocking chairs in motion, food, and entertainment for all ages. The event runs through Saturday night, March 22. The Booster Club is urging people from across the region to “Spend Spring Break in Cuba”, and has scheduled a full lineup of entertainment, including hypnotist Tim Heuertz, comedian and magician Gayle Becwar, clown Jerry Loney. National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson (view more about Jim’s work in Cuba here) will present a show on “Farming Around the World”, and Jerry and Wave Nekuda will return on two days with a slide show of Cuba area photographs they have compiled from some 7,000 taken by the late Ed Stepanek. Musical, dance, and other entertainment, and a variety of educational programs are on tap throughout the week. A detailed schedule of events and meals can be found on 8A and 9A of this edition.
