US81 frontage eyed for new development

Serious interest is being shown by a developer for a new business in Belleville on highway frontage on the west side of US81 highway. Republic County Commissioners met with representatives of the Republic County Economic Development board Monday to confirm boundaries of the parcel.
While officials did not reveal the identity of the developer who is researching the location, Commissioner Frank Rytych said the interest is serious. “I hope this goes through,” he said. “I can’t help but think if one business (locates there) it will develop the whole area.”
Last year, the county traded a 23-acre parcel of highway frontage with the NCK Industrial Development. The county highway department previously used the highway frontage as storage area for materials.
RCED director Luke Mahin and board member Mikel Hadachek told commissioners and highway administrator Scott Finkbiner that Campbell and Johnson engineers would mark boundaries of the property. Hadachek said if someone chooses to develop the property, consideration will also need to be given to developing utilities and a frontage road.
