There are FREE Matinees “Miracle on 34th Street” at 2 PM at the Blair Theater this Saturday December 21st and “Polar Express” on December 28th at 2 PM. 

Belleville Chamber & Main Street will be putting together a basket for the New Years Baby again and would appreciate donations of gifts for the first baby at Republic County Hospital in 2014.

County offices to be closed Tues., Wed.
The Republic County Courthouse, Health Department and county shops will be closed on Tuesday, Dec. 24, and Wednesday, Dec. 25, for the Christmas holiday.

Christmas dance planned in Courtland
The Republican Valley Dancers will have their Christmas dance on Thursday, Dec. 19. Singles or couples, young or old, beginners or experienced dancers are all welcome to come learn the two-step at 7 p.m. at the Courtland Arts Center. At 8 p.m. there will be a dance. The cost is $1 a person. Contact Christy at 785-336-1388 for more information.

Scandia to have lighting contest
The Scandia Community Club second-annual Griswold Christmas lighting contest sign-up is due by Nov. 28 to Megan Melby or Becky Craig. Winners will be announced Dec. 27. Fifty percent of ticket sales will go to the winner while 50 percent of the tickets sales will go toward improvements for Scandia Park.
•The Community Club will have tickets available for the for 2nd Annual Scandia Griswold Christmas Lights Contest.

County Toy Bank seeks Christmas donations
The Republic County Toy Bank wants to offer assistance to families of Republic County this Christmas. Sign-up sheets are available at The Citizens National Bank, Republic County Health Department, Head Start and East Elementary offices. Sign-up sheets should be returned to The Citizens National Bank by Friday, Nov. 22. Cash donations and new toys for the Toy Bank may be left at All About You, Belleville Farm and Home, Dollar General, Golden Bell Haven, Styleaire Beauty Salon (Scandia) and all county banks. Warm hats, scarves and mittens are also welcome items. Those wanting information on adopting a family this Christmas can call 527-2219. Families receiving items from the Toy Bank can pick up packages early on Thursday, Dec. 12, at the Golden Bell Haven from 3-7 p.m. Arrangements can also be made for another time for pick-up if needed, or packages will also be delivered at a later date for those not picking up their items.
