Proposal made for spec building
A proposal to use proceeds from the sale of the former M-C Industries building in Belleville to build a speculation building that could be used to attract industry to Republic County was made to the Belleville City Council Monday night.
Lambriar Animal Health will purchase the building from the city on January 1 for $100,000 , said Mike Hadachek, chairman of the Republic County Economic Development Committee.
Kent Garlinghouse , Topcka , donated the building and $50,000 cash to Belleville two years ago after Precision Dynamics- Midwest ceased operations here. The cash was to be used to pay taxes, utilities, and recruitment expenses to bring a new industry to Belleville, Hadachek said.
The city has about $10,000 remaining of the original $50,000 gift. Once Lambriar completes the purchase and 2005 taxes are paid, the city will net about $88,000 from the building sale.
“This building has never cost the taxpayers a dime,” Hadachek said. “Taxes and utilities were paid from Kent’s $50,000 gift, and the building has attracted an industry that has already created 20 jobs in its first lew months”
